JJ Gerarden Interview:
Axe: Where are you from? What high school did you attend?
I am from Black Diamond, Washington. I attended Kentlake High School.
Axe: Who was your favorite baseball player growing up? Is he still your favorite player? If not, who is now?
My favorite baseball player is Mike Trout, and he still is. I would always try and model my swing off of him growing up.
Favorite baseball team? Any level.
I am and always will be a Seattle Mariners fan, no matter how good or bad they are.
Axe: If you could hit a HR off one MLB pitcher, who would it be?
I would hit a homer off of Gerrit Cole because he is known to be one of the MLB’s dominate and power arms.
Axe: What do you love most about hitting the baseball?
I love how fast things develop, you let your instinct take over and just play. There is really no better feeling than when you square up a ball and you barley feel anything.
Axe: What is your favorite Axe model? Why?
I love the new 2022 Axe Bat Elite One Pro because it is so balanced, giving me total bat control with good pop off the barrel.
Axe: What music do you listen to while training?
When I lift weights, I listen to a mixture of rap music and EDM to get myself hyped up. When I do baseball training I listen to a variety of genres like country, rock and rap.
Axe: How does handle give you more speed, control or feel better?
Axe Bat helps me stay directional through the ball when I am hitting and provides a comfortable feel on my bottom hand that I have loved ever since I was little.
Axe: What are the highlights of playing D1 baseball?
I love playing high caliber baseball where the competition is strong, making each opportunity within the game more important to take advantage of. Not to mention the fans and overall atmosphere.
Axe: Biggest tip for kids aspiring to play collegiate baseball?
Don’t get caught up in which level (D1, D2, D3, JUCO) school you go to. You want to go where you are wanted the most and will likely have the best opportunity to play. There is good baseball played at every level. I really enjoyed my JUCO experience and it was possibly the best thing that happened to me for my baseball career.
Axe: What’s one hitting tip you would give kids?
Hitting is one of the hardest things to do in sports so don’t let a strikeout or one at bat effect your next at bat. Keeping things simple in the box and you will set yourself up for success.
