FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL PRODUCT FAQS

WHY THE AXE HANDLE?

The Axe wasn’t an accidental or arbitrary design. Over 150 years ago, when baseball bats were first made, the only technology available was a lathe. Because a lathe spins a bat on an axis, the entire bat had to be round, including the knob and handle. Now we have the ability to manufacture the handle in a way that makes the most sense for the hitter. Now, every curve and angle is bio-mechanically superior to the traditional round knob, and every other bat on the market.

Video: Why Axe Is Better For Your Swing

HOW DO I HOLD THE BAT?

The pinky finger should wrap around the front hook portion of the Axe knob, while the bottom of the knob is flush with the base of your palm. The handle should feel natural and comfortable in your hands.

On our newest models you will notice an "X" on the engineered hitting zone, so the ball should make contact on that side.

WHO SWINGS AXE BAT?

Players of all ages nationwide are swinging Axe Bats. Our bat is approved for play at all amateur and professional levels and is being swung exclusively by college baseball programs from NCAA Division I to NAIA. In Major League Baseball, over 100 players have swung an Axe-Handle bat during the regular season. Since 2015, those players have recorded more than 2,100 hits, 300 home runs, and 1,100 RBI. Among the stars to have swung it are Mookie Betts, Carlos Correa, Jake Lamb, Dustin Pedroia, George Springer, Dansby Swanson, Kris Bryant, and Yordan Alvarez.

WHAT DOES THE AXE HANDLE DO FOR MY SWING?

Lots of things, because it’s
the only handle built for your swing. Pick it up, and right away you’re going to notice it’s more comfortable than the round knob you’ve been swinging. That superior grip is going to allow you to control your barrel more precisely, even while swinging at max effort. The handle also is going to give you about 15-20 degrees more in-plane rotation, allowing you to maximize your bat speed.

CAN LEFTIES & RIGHTIES BOTH USE AN AXE BAT?

Yes, both left-handed and right-handed hitters can swing the same Axe bat.

WHERE IS THE AXE HANDLE APPROVED?

Everywhere! The Axe handle is approved in all major, amateur, and professional leagues in baseball, fastpitch softball, and slowpitch softball. Every Axe Bat is tuned to the maximum legal performance under all new bat regulations. Approvals include: MLB, BBCOR, USSSA, Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball, Dixie Youth Baseball, Pony Baseball, AABC, ASA, ISA, ISF, and NCAA. Check your required league approvals prior to purchasing your Axe.

We are the official bat of Babe Ruth Baseball, Softball and Cal Ripken!

DO I NEED TO ROTATE THE BARREL TO BREAK IT IN?

No, you don't! Because we know where the ball will hit the bat, we can focus our construction on that portion of the bat. Similar to how a Golf Driver is designed.

On our newest models you will notice an "X" on the engineered hitting zone, so the ball should make contact on that side.

See a video explainer of our design.

DO YOUR BATS WEAR OUT FASTER SINCE YOUR HIT ON ONE SIDE OF THE BAT?

No. Think of the design like a Golf Driver. In fact, one-sided hitting is a performance advantage for us. Our engineers know where contact on the barrel will occur and can develop technologies to ensure Axe Bat barrels perform to maximum allowable standards and remain strong and durable throughout the
lifetime of your bat. This technology is built into what we call our Engineered Hitting Zone, which covers the 270° surface on which you will always make contact.

See a video explainer.

WHAT IS THE 'ENGINEERED HITTING ZONE'?

Regardless if you’re a lefty or a righty, you will only hit the Axe on a 330° portion of the barrel. This is the ‘Engineered Hitting Zone.’ The top of the bat (the 30° non-hitting portion of the barrel) is the only area of the bat not designed for maximum performance and durability. On the Axe the ball only makes contact with the “sweet spot” and ours is as big or bigger than anybody’s.

See a video explainer.

HOW DO YOU DESIGN YOUR BATS DIFFERENTLY TO ENSURE DURABILITY AND POP WITH ONE-SIDED HITTING?

Depending on barrel material, we utilize several different technologies to achieve one sided hitting:

  • Composite: Our composite bats use ++ technology. ++ uses additional layers of carbon fiber in the hitting zone, literally making the barrel thicker where the ball strikes. To maximize the performance, we added an asymmetric ‘C’ shaped slip plane which makes this thick hitting wall perform like two very hot thin walls.

  • Alloy: We use military grade LP Scandium Alloy that has an incredibly high strength to weight ratio. We then use a proprietary combination of swedging and machining to put pop and durability in the hitting zone, and shave weight everywhere else. One-sided hitting lets us maximize pop, durability and balance in a single bat.

CAN YOU SUPPORT YOUR CLAIMS? (INCREASED BAT SPEED, BARREL CONTROL, POWER TRANSFER)

Absolutely. Multiple studies
have been conducted comparing the Axe Handle to a traditional round handle. The findings show that the Axe Handle enables maximum bat speed with optimal barrel control, while also providing superior comfort.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PRO AXE HANDLE AND THE PRO FLARED HANDLE?

See Our Blog For Detail

PRO STANDARD AXE HANDLE:

  • MAX CONTROL
  • MAX BAT SPEED
  • MAX BARREL CONTROL

Axe Pro Insights: The Pro Standard Handle has been our most used Axe Handle design by our Pros since 2017. Players like George Springer, Mookie Betts, Dansby Swanson, and Yordan Alvarez use this handle. The handle offers the most oval design feel, which locks in your bottom hand throughout the swing, allowing for maximum feel and control of the barrel.

Who’s it for? If you are looking for the most control and a locked-in grip, then the Pro Standard Axe Handle for you.

PRO FLARED AXE HANDLE:

  • MAX POWER
  • MAX WHIP
  • MORE GRIP FREEDOM

Axe Pro Insights: The Pro Power Flared Handle has been in use by our Pros since 2019. Originally created for Carlos Correa, Kris Bryant, and Giancarlo Stanton, the Flared Handle has become incredibly popular with power hitters. The handle features the most pro flared design and offers an unrestricted feel, allowing maximum freedom and whip of the barrel while maintaining the benefit of control in your swing.

Who’s it for? If you are a power hitter looking for the most juice and whip in your swing, plus the feel of true freedom in your grip, then the Pro Power Flared Axe Handle is for you.

WHAT IS YOUR FLARED HANDLE?

The Axe Flared Handle (shown
below) gives the familiar feeling of a round knob but maintains the Axe Bat details that we find most crucial to a powerful, tuned in swing.  More can be read about the Flared Handle design HERE

DO YOU HAVE A PATNENT ON THE AXE BAT?

Yes. Our parent company, Baden Sports, owns exclusive rights to the Axe Bat patent (No.7878930). All of our patents are listed here: https://axebat.com/pages/patents.

WHAT'S THE BREAK-IN PROCESS?

Our alloy bats require no
break-in period and perform to the maximum allowable standard right out of the wrapper. You should have a very similar experience with our composite bats, but as with all composite barrels, there is a natural break-in period. We would expect you to be achieving max performance with as few as 50 swings.

WILL AXE DONATE A BAT OR MONEY TO MY FUNDRAISER?

While we’d love to help out with every request, as a small family owned company - we have limited resources to donate, even to worthy causes. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.

TRAINING FAQS

WHY DO I NEED ALL 3 SPEED TRAINERS INCLUDED IN YOUR OVERLOAD-UNDERLOAD PROGRAM?

They are all designed to work together. Using all three bats, as prescribed in Driveline’s program, will force your body to adapt and learn; and it is how you will achieve your greatest gains.

CAN I USE THE OVERLOAD-UNDERLOAD PROGRAM DURING THE SEASON?

Absolutely. Driveline designed programs specifically for in-season players, and those are
included with the set.

WHAT BENEFIT IS THERE TO THE OVERLOAD-UNDERLOAD PROGRAM?

The program is designed to increase bat speed. Players completing the program have
shown, on average, a 3.2 mph increase in exit velocity over eight weeks.

DO I GET ANY ADDED BENEFIT FROM THE OVERLOAD-UNERLOAD TRAINING PROGRAM IF I ALSO SWING AXE DURING GAMES?

Yes. In fact, Driveline’s research shows players who complete the program then continue swinging Axe-Handle bats in games achieve up to 1.6 mph more in exit velocity than those who return to a round-handle bat for games.

CAN I USE THE UNDERLOAD BAT OFF OF PITCHING?

We do not recommend it. While we have heard of programs using our underload bat in batting practice without issue, we designed the bat to be used with tee and/or toss drills, which is also the use prescribed by Driveline’s program. You run the risk of
invalidating the warranty should you choose to use the bats other than how they
are intended.

DOES YOUR OVERLOAD-UNDERLOAD TRAINING BATS HAVE A WARRANTY?

All three bats are sold with a 120-day warranty.

CAN I BUY A SINGLE WEIGHTED BAT, OR A REPLACEMENT FOR MY OVERLOAD-UNDERLOAD SET?

No, not currently. The program is only being offered as a full set with all bats designed to be used together for maximum gains.
